Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton Fishing Sep 05

1-11th Trollers Treasure

Giant oily herds of bonitos are moving through again and bringing with them great predators. On Wednesday Timmy loaded the cooler with Bombers (thanx) and then caught a 50lb wahoo. Big enough to win the local tournament as well as six Kingfish. All fish were caught while trolling the reef at various speeds from 4-8 knots. Picking up the speed a bit helps the wahoo bite. Later in the week Jeff, Tim, Shelby and Dell caught their limit of kings and then a nice trophy barracuda in (of all places) the intercoastal waterway on the way in. What this beast was doing on the inside we will never know.

12th-18th Baitfish are Key

We like to start each trip off by spending a few minutes catching live bait at the bouy. Live bait can mean the difference between the trip of a lifetime or just what your average charter boat gives you. While catching bait can make your fishing experience the best we don't expect to have the best experience of the trip while bait fishing. This was exactly the case on wednesday when a 25lb cobia came right up to the boat while we were catching our bait. Doug Lasseter landed it on a small bait rod for a heck of a fight on 6lb line. Later in the trip we caught a 12 lb mahi mahi and some kings. Live bait worked well the rest of the week for some really big "Smoker" kingfish.

19th-25th See recipe on June 6th

Hurricane Rita slammed into us for the 3rd natural charter buster of the season. Hopefully the last. Luckily it was over quick and by thursday we were back on the water.
The good thing about hurricanes is the fact that sometimews they blow good fishing in. This was the case as we caught blackfin tuna and dolphin fish everyday for a week after the storm. Some wahoo too! Thursday to Sunday we did 6 trips and scored heavy on the green Demons(mahi-mahi) Only a couple of miles out too!

9/26-9/30

Monday the wahoo were biting! Most around 8-12 pounds we call them weehoos and we got our limit. After the storm the lobster divers were experiencing a bonanza! The confused bugs were "walking" all around the beaches right at the waders feet. Rob and I went out a few times and filled the freezer with these tasty crustaceans. Yummy yummy. Thats it for September!
