| 1st-5th Grouper and Sharks
Unfortunetely, due to a massive high pressure system parked off the coast of South Florida, kite fishing for sails was a little slow this week. Therfore, we tailored our fishing style to the situation and had a great week catching big fish. On the first Dan Kashy chartered us to try to catch some big fish on the bottom. So we gave him a little boat ride to one of our secret deep water wrecks and landed him 11 groupers one of which was over 70 LBS!! Thats good eating for a long time, excellent!! Later in the week while kite fishing Svez Zaltez's group landed 3 mahi 1 blackfin tuna a few kings and not one but two big Golden Hammerhead Sharks. And last but not least we found one more big Hammerhead for Rich and Bob on the 5th. 6TH-12TH SAILS EN-MASSE
Wow, what a great week for sailfishing. It's great to see after the poor showing the week before. On the 7th we fished a combined trip with three other boats and all managed to catch a sailfish. Kite fishing was the preferred method for most boats and they were landing some smaller sized sailfish. We however wanted a bigger fish so we slow trolled big live Bonitos and it really paid off with a huge 88" sailfish as well as some big kings. We didn't have a trip on the 8th but the sailfish continued to bite for those who did. However, we did have a trip the next day and hooked one of the majestic creatures, which gave us a great display of its acrobatic leaps and tail walking before finally pulling it into the boat for a great picture. Hope you guys got some action shots! Rounding out the week we landed a nice 30 lb wahoo. 13th-19th Sailfish are biting GREAT!
Up and down the line the Sailfish are moving through! Its been good in about 160 feet of water on the reef. Weather has made it tough to get out but we managed here and here. Teusday was perfect and we went three for five on the sailfish. Friday Joe Mullen caught 2 sailfish at the same time- By Himself! On the weekend kings and dolphin were biting on the reef in 200 feet of water on both our trips. Christmas! 20th-26th
Sailfish are still biting good! Mike McCandless came out monday and although the sailfish were biting, they avoided our baits, just qa couple of kings. Mike and Mark caught a giant dolphin on live bait tuesday and a ton of snapper. Wednesday we got a couple of sailfish and Tom Richards caught a beautiful Amberjack and many kinga. Thursday Randy, Len, Dana, and Justin came out for a sailfish, some kings, and a most unusual catch- a six foot banded houndfish! What a strange creature. You never know what the ocean will give up. We will post THAT picture as soon as they e-mail it to me.(hint hint) Rob and I are going up coast to see the family for a few days, see ya when we return! Shark!!! 27th-31st
The Giant Sharks are beginning to migrate through! Its been really windy but we got out with Alex and fought 5 golden hammerheads using live snapper for bait. A first for us, we have never caught 5 of these fish in a half day trip before. Sharking should be good from now till July if its anything like last year- lets go fishing! The intercoastal yeilded some big cudas for George Santangello, the wind didn't let us offshore. Bob and Samantha Caught a nice sailfish Thursday to round out the year.
